Frequently Asked questions

How are the Broilers raised?  We grow the chicks in a brooder for 2-3 weeks before free ranging them in a "chicken tractor."  The chicken tractor is an enclosed, mobile, secure area that is moved to fresh pasture everyday.  This keeps the chickens on clean, fresh grass, and it keeps our pasture healthy too.  At 7 to 8  weeks the birds are mature.

What do the birds look like when I pick them up?     You may request to pick up live birds and process them yourself. However, we offer to process them for you, as a free service, and even encourage those who are interested to join us early for "freezer camp" on the farm as we "dress" the birds.  When dressed they will be in vacuum sealed plastic freezer bags.

What time can I pick up my birds?    Our Freezer camps will be announced in our Spring Newsletter.  We usually allow pickups between 2-7 on that day.  Our CSA members can pickup anytime by appointment.

What do I need to bring?     Once the birds are processed they will be held in a cooling tank. Buyers will select the birds they want from the cooling tank. You will need a cooler, with some ice, for transporting your birds to their new home.

How can I order broilers to be picked up?  You can fill out the online order form or call us to order direct.  We will also try to send out an order form well before we start the chicks in our brooder.  This will allow us to raise the number required for each "freezer camp" and CSA member.  We will send the form out by email and possibly snail mail, so make sure you are on our list.  Our CSA members don't need to order as they paid for a specified number in the early Spring.  They can pick up at a freezer camp or any other day with and appointment.
