Duane grew up in Missouri. Although he grew up in town, he enjoyed spending time at his grandfather’s farm, where his mother and her siblings grew up in a farming family.
After a career in Special Operations with the U.S. Army, Duane maintains his full-time job as a helicopter pilot for Air Methods, flying locally for the Lifeflight program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Lynn grew up in rural, central Ohio. Living on a small farm, only 14 acres, Lynn developed a love for horses at an early age. She spent 10 years in a 4-H Saddle Club, and 4 years as a member of the Future Farmers, (FFA), at her local high school.
Having a variety of previous employment experiences including being a full-time missionary and then an administrator at her church, Lynn went back to school to become a Registered Nurse. After spending 6 years working in adult nursing, she now works full-time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Monroe Carrell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Although we both grew up with a love for the country and parents who had vast experience in different areas of farming and homesteading, we each spent a number of years living in the city, away from farm life. It wasn’t until we started looking for property outside of Nashville that we started to get serious about homesteading and embracing the life and the experiences we valued from our childhoods.
In 2015, after months of looking at property all over middle Tennessee, God led us to Ivy Brook. The door of opportunity was wide open and we sprinted through it, uprooting our urban family and moving to North Eastern Sumner County, just South of the Kentucky/Tennessee border.
Duane and Lynn are the proud parents of Tyler and Abi, as well as a variety of 2-4 legged feathered or furry kids. We added another daughter a few years back Abi’s friend, Sierra a true blessing to our family.
You never know what you might find here at Ivy Brook and everyday is an adventure. God has blessed us richly! We do not take
